Product Description Roadsongs is a document of the Derek Trucks Band at its collective musical peak, recorded live in Chicago during their 2009 Already Free Tour. Featuring extended live versions from their Grammy Award-winning album Already Free along with classic Derek Trucks Band originals, Roadsongs captures the band reaching new heights on-stage and beyond.
Album Description 2010 two CD live release from the American rockers. The Derek Trucks Band is a six-piece group with a 16 year legacy of relentless touring; always believing in building the machine the old fashioned way: one fan at a time. Their concerts have evolved into consistent, rafter-raising events, filled with soulful jams and Gospel-revival intensity, highlighted by Trucks' dazzling, daring guitar solos. Roadsongs captures the DTB in their full, cathartic glory and promises to expand their audience and draw greater attention to the group... and Trucks himself!

SICK...buy the whole album. September 1, 2010 Omar S. 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought the album yesterday and have already listened to the entire CD straight through. First of all, I am a huge Derek Trucks fan...I have all of the DTB albums and I especially enjoy Derek Trucks' work with the Allman Brothers Band- which I highly recommend. (youtube Desdemona, Rockin' Horse, and Dreams and prepare to be blown away) I say that, because if you are unfamiliar with the Derek Trucks sound, which includes a lot of funky slide guitar, I can't guarantee that you will like this album, or anything else from Derek Trucks for that matter.
But if you are either a Derek Trucks fan, or a fan of the blues and jam bands, then this album is an absolute must buy. Although I have definitely enjoyed the DTB studio albums, live performances are what the DTB (and most jam bands) are all about, and I personally feel that Roadsongs does an incredible job of capturing just how good the Derek Trucks Band really is. There is not one song on this whole album that I do not enjoy, and furthermore, any previously recorded Derek Trucks song is superior performed live on this CD. Down in the Flood is a great example...I loved the song on Still Free, but Trucks' guitar work on the song live is simply unbelievable...its almost a totally different song.
The real genius of this album, however, is that it is a showcase for the ecliptic sound of the Derek Trucks Band. If you're into traditional blues, Derek's take on Key to the Highway, Don't Miss Me, and Anyday are right up your alley. But if you really want to just chill out and take in some truly unique and beautiful guitar work...then Rastaman Chant and Afro Blues is a great prescription. In my opinion, Derek Trucks is in his own class of guitar players all by himself. He certainly has the ability to melt your face off with lightning quick solos, but his god-like talent is really grounded in the emotion and unique sounds that he creates, pushing the limits of what is possible on an electric guitar. There is nothing else like it...buy the album and you won't be disappointed.
He's done it again! August 31, 2010 Peter Jackson (Australia) Derek Trucks always produces top class stuff this is among the best. A great album to introduce yourself to Derek Trucks.
Worth the price of Admission August 25, 2010 J. Hendricksen (Right Coast) I must admit, I am not a huge fan of Derek Trucks. I have seen him 3 or 4 times, and he is widely considered a great player. However, his style can be indulgent and lack any passion and melody. What makes this CD so good is that he allows the band to be an equal player in the songs. Its really not about him, and thats a good thing. He has a great band, the songs are strong and the recording is very clean and precise...
Good Buy...
Billy Bongoola Grooves on D.T. Band August 22, 2010 W. J. Nowell (Seneca, SC USA) Saw Derek do his thing on the Clapton Crossroads Festival DVD - what a talent! You can see his roots are from his Dad's time with the Allman Brothers. I really enjoy the band he has put together. The more I listen to this album, the better it sounds. Really like the raspy and mellow voice of Mike Mattison. Keep putting out more 'live music'. Thanks, guys!
Great Compilation August 21, 2010 Susan G. Abrahams (fairfield ct) After seeing Derek live many times I was very happy to find a recording that matched the excitement of the live shows . He truly is in a league of his own when it comes to slide guitar.Really enjoyable album.
